During the SPT test, the sampler is driven into the ground at a specified rate (usually 1 inch per blow) and the number of blows required to penetrate each 6-inch increment is recorded. This is known as the "blow count" or "N-value" and is used to estimate the soil's resistance and strength.
After the sampling is completed, the split barrel is carefully extracted from the ground, keeping the soil sample intact. The soil sample can then be analyzed in the laboratory for various geotechnical properties such as grain size, moisture content, and shear strength.
The SPT sampler is widely used in geotechnical investigations, soil classification, and foundation design, as it provides valuable information about the soil's engineering properties and behavior.
