3. Check thread compatibility. The rod thread must match the shank adapter, coupling sleeves, and drill bit in the system. Mismatched threads cause premature wear, loosening, and potential downhole failure.
4. Evaluate rod length and hole depth. Shorter rods (1–3 meters) are easier to handle in confined spaces like underground tunnels, while longer rods (4–6 meters) reduce the number of connections needed in deep surface drilling.
5. Assess material quality and manufacturing standards. High-quality rods are forged from alloy steel grades such as 23CrNi3Mo and undergo carburizing heat treatment for surface hardness combined with a tough core.
